The rising of the shield hero season 2 was purely disappointing. Compared to season 1, the story was just horribly written. I wouldn't recommend people watch the second season.
Hopefully season 3 might be well written.#shieldhero pic.twitter.com/MqewUu5FYa

Rising of the Shield Hero season 3 already confirmed

It’s excellent news for fans of The Rising of the Shield Hero anime series, season 3 has already been confirmed to be in production!

In fact, the news that The Rising of the Shield Hero TV series would continue into a third broadcast was actually announced all the way back in 2019, when the second season was renewed.

However, fans aren’t particularly surprised at Naofumi’s adventure continuing with season 3, thanks to both plenty of source material left to adapt and the series’ global popularity.

Per Anime Geek, season 2 episode 13 is expected to adapt up until volume 9 of Aneko Yusagi’s original light novel series. As of June 29th, 22 compete volumes have been published domestically in Japan, meaning that there is potentially enough source material for another three TV broadcasts.

Then we have popularity and unfortunately, it’s a mixed bag for The Rising of the Shield Hero. The second anime season has been rather disappointing for many fans, with significantly lower ratings seen across various user-based websites when compared to the first season from 2019.

These include a drop from 8.02/10 to 6.63/10 on MyAnimeList, 78% down to 86% on Anilist and 4.3/5 down to 3.8/5 on Anime Planet. However, the series still maintains a dedicated fanbase around the world, with a series average of 8.1/10 on IMDB and 7.9/10 on RatinGraph.

So, whilst the second season has certainly not met the expectations from fans, the anime series overall remains popular enough to at least merit a third season; which was again confirmed before season 2 had even premiered.

“Rising of the Shield Hero despite being extremely popular, feels like the mediocre stopgap isekai every season must offer. The fights are poor and predictable, the plot presented so far is tiresome and lacks creativity, it’s the same history everyone has seen over and over again. A overpowered MC, at first painted as the underdog, surrounded by two-dimensional characters, while on his journey will be presented with some adversities that at first seen impossible to overcome, but thanks to his plot armor and the power of friendship nothing is insurmountable.” – User Alaudidae, via MAL.

What date could ROTSH potentially release?

Whilst season 3 of The Rising of the Shield Hero has been confirmed for some time, a targeted release window remains TBA. The good news is that we can make some predictions based on the production cycles of seasons 1 and 2, the issue here is that the anime was significantly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Season 1 was first revealed in June 2017, making its premiere in January 2019 roughly 18 months later. Season 2 was then announced in September 2019 and was scheduled to premiere in October 2021; with multiple delays occurring due to the limitations arising from the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the renewal of seasons 2 and 3 in September 2019 means that the production team at DR Movie (who took over from Kinema Citrus after S1) have now had nearly three years to plan out the next TV broadcast.

This gives fans confidence that the potential wait for season 3 won’t last for multiple years in a similar way to season 2. Couple this with the production cycle from season 1 and the easing of coronavirus-related issues domestically, HITC predicts that The Rising of the Shield Hero season 3 will premiere in either April 2023 or July 2023.

Is Shield Hero season 2 finished?

Is Rising of the Shield Hero over?

Eventually, Naofumi did indeed marry Melty (and several other women, including Raphtalia) and in effect became Trash's son in law.
