With how open the top is, I wonder if it's safer to keep the console laying on its side so not as much dust collects in the system? My Series X is arriving on Tuesday, so I'm trying to decide how I want to set up the console.

That fan always seems to be spinning - even in rest mode. That has to help, right?

Don't judge me, monkey.

^ Yeah, with Instant On, the fan seems to be on all the time.

It'll gather dust regardless, if it bothers you just get some compressed air give it a blow every so often.

It's time gamers grew up instead of being pissy 5 year olds fighting over the most asinine things.

Easy enough! I just assumed that the fan didn't run while it was in rest mode. I figured it wouldn't be a problem, just making sure. :P

If a fan is pushing/pulling air through a device then you're gonna get dust in it. Best you can do is buy a can of compressed air.

Wait, what? I’m pretty sure I use Instant On but when I turn off my system (just by holding down the Xbox button and clicking shut down), the fans don’t keep spinning.

Am I using “Instant On” incorrectly? Is there a separate mechanism to put it in “Rest” mode that I should be using?

How do I dust my Xbox Series X?

General cleaning recommendations Use a soft lint-free cloth (microfiber cloths work great) dampened with a little bit of mild soap and water, or premoistened disinfectant wipes. Clean every 3-6 months or whenever needed. Important Power off and disconnect your Xbox console from the wall before cleaning it.

How can I keep my Xbox from getting dusty?

To help keep your Xbox One fan clean: Use a can of compressed air to blast dust and dirt out of the air vents. Once you've cleaned the vents, be sure to position your Xbox somewhere with good airflow to assist with cooling. Clean your Xbox One console every three to six months to make sure it works like it should.

Will dust damage my series X?

A build-up of dust can cause the system to slow down and weaken its performance as well as being dangerous due to its ability to cause overheating. Thankfully for Xbox Series X owners, there's a simple way to take the console apart and clean out the inside components to prevent any dust build-up that may occur.
