Today, multi-platinum producer DJ Snake unveils his latest release with new track “You Are My High”. On this record, the boundary-pushing disruptor fuses elements of traditional dance music with classic R&B funk to create a woozy electronic soundscape sure to be heard across the world this summer.

The song, which samples the classic track “You Are My High” from The Gap Band, follows last week’s release of DJ Snake’s high-energy club anthem “Ring The Alarm” with Malaa. The two tracks arrive on the heels of DJ Snake’s announcement that he will be embarking on tour across Europe and North America, including dates with Malaa, starting on July 29th in Chicago, IL. The upcoming 2021 run includes a stop at North America’s legendary electronic music festival EDC Las Vegas in October followed by Escape Halloween the weekend after.

Back in July, DJ Snake unveiled an infectious hard-hitting single titled “You Are My High,” which samples The Gap Band‘s 70’s hit of the same name. Today (Dec. 3), the French DJ and beatsmith decided to connect with Future for a new version of the track (now spelled out as “U Are My High”), which sees the Pluto rapper singing sweet nothings to a love interest in the club over the song’s genre-bending production:

“I need you arrogant, I need you confident, I need you to promise this, babe, I’ve been searchin’ for the right one, introducе you to Jimmy Choos shoes, happy belated, yеah, check the commodity, hottest commodity, biggest whoever, whenever, she the baddest in the city, know what comin’ with it, stackin’ the liberty, tall as the Statue of Liberty, hand you the Benz key, hand you the Lamborghini, you elevated, physically, spiritually…”

Both versions of the top tier cut comes in the midst of other loose cuts and collaborations from DJ Snake, including “Spanish Harlem” with Camila Cabello, “SG” with Megan Thee Stallion, Ozuna, and LISA, “Pondicherry” with Malaa, and “Run It” with Rick Ross and Rich Brian, the last of which appeared on the official soundtrack to the Marvel blockbuster Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. His last full-length body of work, the sophomore LP Carte Blanche, made landfall in 2019 and saw contributions from the likes of Majid Jordan, Offset, 21 Savage, Gucci Mane, Bryson Tiller, J Balvin, Sean Paul, and Burna Boy over 17 tracks. Future has been pretty busy as well — following last year’s chart-topper High Off Life, he teamed up with Lil Uzi Vert for the well-received Pluto x Baby Pluto and provided show-stealing verses on songs by Playboi Carti, Chris Brown and Young Thug, Moneybagg Yo, 42 Dugg, Migos, and Drake, amongst many others.

"You Are My High" is a song that was originally released in 1999 by Artist DEMON. French DJ and record producer DJ Snake then released a remix that soared in popularity on 28 July 2021. The remix was written by Charlie Wilson, Johnsye Andrea Smith, Ronnie Wilson and DJ Snake, and produced by the latter.[2]

Background[edit]

DJ Snake produced the track with Malaa in July 2021. It also marks their second collaboration since "Selfish Love" with Selena Gomez in March, and his first solo release since "Trust Nobody" in Summer 2020.[3]

Composition[edit]

"You Are My High" is sample from the single "You Are My High" by The Gap Band, and merges elements of "traditional dance music, classic R&B and funk." The song also borrows heavily from a similarly titled track released in 2000 by French artist Demon. [4][5]
