After an off-season like no other, one can almost guarantee that the 2022 NFL season will be unpredictable and it’s not just because of the overtime rule change for playoffs. The mayhem began with a game of musical chairs: quarterback edition. The Seattle Seahawks decided to start a rebuild after finishing the season with a 7-10 record, sending Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos for 5 picks in the 2022 NFL Draft.

The Washington Commanders initially tossed their hat in the ring for Wilson but were shut out and ended up acquiring QB Carson Wentz from the Indianapolis Colts for a pair of draft picks. Days later, the Cleveland Browns picked up Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans. The Browns gave Watson a fully guaranteed 5-year, $230 million contract. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Falcons ended up trading long-time QB Matt Ryan, the starter since 2008, to the Colts for a 3rd-round pick after unsuccessfully pursuing Watson. Atlanta then signed Marcus Mariota to a two-year deal.

In the midst of all of the chaos, Ben Roethlisberger retired after an 18-year career with the Steelers, Tom Brady retired and then un-retired, and Aaron Rodgers decided to stay in Green Bay signing a 3-year, $150 million deal with the Packers.

We witnessed Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill, Stefon Diggs, Terry McLaurin, and Deebo Samuel–five of the NFL’s best wide receivers–get paid this off-season, who will be next?

When does the 2022 NFL season start?

The 2022 NFL season kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 8. Traditionally, the Super Bowl winners host the opening game. This year, the Los Angeles Rams will begin the season against the Buffalo Bills.

Top matchups in the 2022 NFL season

Week 1: Bills at Rams | TNF

The NFL season starts with one of the best matchups of the week as the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams square off on Thursday night. Both of these teams are coming into the season with rosters that are pretty much intact from the year prior. That is a good sign for a Rams team that won the Super Bowl. With a total set around 52, we can expect fireworks to start the NFL season.

Week 4: Chiefs at Buccaneers | SNF

The Kansas City Chiefs will travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football in Week 4. This is obviously one of the marquee matchups of the week, with Tom Brady taking on Patrick Mahomes. Again, similar to the Thursday Night Football opener, this game should see a ton of points. Even though both offenses have lost key contributors — the Chiefs traded Tyreek Hill, and the Buccaneers lost Rob Gronkowski — they both replenished their losses with signings like JuJu Smith-Schuster and Julio Jones.

Week 6: Bengals at Saints

This game is notable for Joe Burrow’s return to the scene of his national championship-winning exploits. Burrow’s homecoming to the state of Louisiana will provoke plenty of emotional memories for the locals. However, when the ball is kicked off, expect the Superdome to be as loud as ever despite the LSU hero playing for the Bengals.

Week 10: Cowboys at Packers

The Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers have had a number of important and memorable matchups over the years. Cowboys fans will surely remember all of their recent playoff failures against Aaron Rodgers. However, after trading Rodgers’ go-to weapon Davante Adams in the offseason, this Packers team might finally be at their most vulnerable.

Will Dak Prescott and the Cowboys be able to take advantage and get an important win in what could help shape the NFC playoff picture?

Week 11: 49ers at Cardinals | MNF (Mexico)

The game at the Estadio Azteca could be pivotal to several elements in the NFC. There will be ramifications stretching from the NFC West to the No. 1 seed when the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals meet in Mexico. With the winner potentially being able to put themselves in pole position for the division and deal a blow to their rivals, this should be a hard-fought contest.

Week 16: Broncos at Rams | Christmas Day

Russell Wilson and the Rams are no strangers to each other. However, this time Wilson will be wearing a Denver Broncos helmet, and the game will have potential effects across the entire NFL. Adding some spice to this game, we could see Bobby Wagner lining up opposite Wilson after spending many years together in Seattle.
