Historically, the hottest artists of the moment have been the protagonists of this break, delighting the crowd in the arena and to television viewers across the country and around the world. The performances, certainly those in recent years, then live on via social media.

At the Superbowl LVI, the Los Angeles Rams will Take on the Cincinnati Bengals in California. This year, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar will take center stage and perform for the world!

The Super Bowl LV was a strange one to say the least. Covid-19 put a damper on the celebration, but that doesn't mean it was anything less than an amazing performance. The stadium was not full to capacity to protect people from the virus, but those that attended got an amazing show!

The Weeknd headlined the show. He started the performance with Starboy, and it was followed by some Michael Jackson-inspired dancing on the stage! The performance had to be socially distance, meaning dancers couldn't provide any distraction. Following the show, people raved about his performance!

Halftime show in 2020: Super Bowl LIV

Taking place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, the halftime show in 2020 was one that could boast the most number of musical stars on stage. The main singers were Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Bad Bunny, J Balvin and Emme Muñiz.

Despite this plethora of entertainment on offer, the television audience in the USA fell just shy of 100 million viewers.

In the year 2019, Super Bowl LIII took place on 3 February at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. While the sports stars of the match were the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots, the singers who were chosen to liven up the break were Maroon 5, Travis Scott, and Big Boi.

All of them entertained an audience of 98 million viewers in the United States and more than 160 million worldwide.

Halftime show in 2018: Super Bowl LII

The US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, was handed the opportunity to host Super Bowl LII in 2018 which was played out between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles, with victory for the latter.

In the halftime show, the main stars were Justin Timberlake, the Tennessee Kids, and the University of Minnesota Marching Band, that had the audience eating out of their musical hands as they played around with some of Timberlake's numbers.

Halftime show in 2017: Super Bowl LI

The match between the Atlanta Falcons and the New England Patriots, in the 2017 Super Bowl LI, was played at the NRG Stadium in Houston Texas. Lady Gaga, who was one of the truly global singing stars of the moment, was asked to perform.

The artist was on stage for around 14 minutes and belted out some of her most famous songs including 'Bad Romance', 'Telephone' and 'Born This Way', much to the delight of those in attendance.

Other artists at the Super Bowl halftime show

Across the rest of the decade, many other great artists have entertained the public in the halftime show. Some of the most notable have been the performances of Coldplay in 2016 during Super Bowl LV, Katy Perry in 2015, Bruno Mars in 2014, and Beyonce in Super Bowl XLVII in 2013.

There is absolutely no doubt that the Super Bowl halftime shows are hugely important to the public, both at home and abroad, and they have become one of the side events to the sport that generates the largest audience.

This year will be the first one with coronavirus restrictions and so there will be nowhere near as many people in the stadium as in other years. But that is unlikely to detract from the spectacle that will be beamed live to every television, computer, tablet, and mobile that cares for it.

The first Super Bowl in Los Angeles this century will feature a star-studded halftime show befitting of Hollywood.

Pepsi, the NFL and Roc Nation announced Thursday that Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar will perform at the Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show at SoFi Stadium on Feb. 13 on NBC and Telemundo, and streaming live on Peacock.

The five artists have combined for 43 Grammys and have created 22 No. 1 Billboard albums.

For Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar, the performance will also represent a homecoming for the Los Angeles artists.

"The opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime show, and to do it in my own backyard, will be one of the biggest thrills of my career," Dr. Dre said in a statement. "I'm grateful to JAY-Z, Roc Nation, the NFL, and Pepsi as well as Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar for joining me in what will be an unforgettable cultural moment."

This will mark the third Super Bowl Halftime Show collaboration between Pepsi, the NFL and Roc Nation. In 2020, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira performed at Super Bowl LIV in Miami, while The Weeknd headlined the halftime show for Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Fla.

"On February 13, 2022, at the Super Bowl LVI in Inglewood, California, in the new SoFi Stadium, Dr. Dre, a musical visionary from Compton, Snoop Dogg, an icon from Long Beach and Kendrick Lamar, a young musical pioneer in his own right, also from Compton, will take center field for a performance of a lifetime," Shawn "JAY-Z" Carter said in a statement. "They will be joined by the lyrical genius, Eminem, and the timeless Queen, Mary J. Blige. This is the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. This is history in the making."
