Air jordan 12 retro black and yellow

The Air Jordan 12 was originally released during the 1996-1997 NBA season in five unique colorways. Air Jordan 12 became etched in sneaker history when Michael Jordan wore the Black/Varsity Red pair during the now iconic ‘Flu Game’.

The Air Jordan 12 Retro ‘Black University Gold’ released in 2020 using a color scheme reminiscent of Gary Payton’s ‘Away’ PE shoe during his time with the Lakers. The upper features black tumbled leather with the Jordan 12’s signature stitch detailing. The mudguard, midsole and outer sole sport a ‘University Gold’ color, with a JUMPMAN overlay situated between them. Lastly, the shoe features Jumpman-branded lace lock hardware, a Jordan-branded heel tab above a ‘23’ at the heel and ‘Two Three’ branding on the tongue.

For the umpteenth year in a row, Jordan Brand’s Holiday product assortment will likely be dominated by the Air Jordan 1 and Air Jordan 11. News of the Air Jordan 1 “Chicago” in a vintage-treated “Reimagined” form as well as a heightened MSRP of $180 have sneakerheads abuzz, while Nike’s recent disclosure of the Cool Grey 11s being its most successful SNKRKS release in history have us in anticipation of this year’s Air Jordan 11 “Cherry”. Still, there’s plenty to look forward to in the final three months of the season, like this black/gold take on the Air Jordan 12.

Currently scheduled to release on October 15th, this Air Jordan 12 once again focuses on a DMP-style color-palette with a full black upper and gilded accents on the eyelets and midfoot plate. This mock-up via zsneakerheadz reveals an accurate look at what to expect, and based on its simplicity it’s quite easy to envision what the final product would be.

While a year removed from its milestone 25th anniversary, the Air Jordan 12 has taken advantage of 2022 to emerge in a mix of new ensembles. Case in point?: A “Black” and “Taxi” one.

Constructed from scale-laden leather and textured nubuck, the upcoming retro opts for a mostly pitch-dark ensemble that allows for the slightest of contrast to steal the spotlight. Varying shades of “Taxi,” the same yellow hue that emerged on the original Jordan 12 back in 1996, then, animate everything from the “JUMPMAN”-branded lateral accent above the midsole to the upper eyelets. Together, the aforementioned hues breathe new life into a color palette and design rooted in heritage.
