Cirque du Soleil dress code Reddit

I went on Saturday. It was absolutely amazing, you will love it.

As for dress code, most people were dressed smart casual....I dressed formal, but because I attended the Sydney symphony orchestra right after. Just don't go in shorts, singlet and thongs.

As for arriving on time, i arrived dead on time, and had no problems. But that was because I was running late. If it was in my hands, I would definitely be there 45 mins early.

Also, completely irrelevant but.....I fell in love with the lead singer! She was absolutely amazing.

Hi guys i need some help with what to wear to cirque du soleil alegria in houston. Im going to the 8pm showing on friday night with a date. I would prefer to keep it casual because my wardrobe is mostly street and i dont own any formal clothes. but i couldnt find any info online or pictures of the people attending to get an idea. Please give me some suggestions of dress code for cirque or similar shows and some fits including shoes you would recommend that would be good to add to my wardrobe if i have to buy something for a show.

Thanks in advance

Trying not to be overly critical, but my initial impression isn't too good.

Not sure what you fixed, but tuck-in the shirt, button the jacket (as opposed to holding it closed... why are you doing that?), then, if possible can you take another photo in a room with less yellowish light, it's hard to tell if the colors work together as-is.

The tie is awfully bold for my liking, but you seem like you're going for a fun, crazy combination. Does the shirt have a weird two-tone collar? Where the last half inch next to the tie is blue? Or is that an optical illusion?

I guess my overall problem with it is it seems to lack sophistication. The jacket doesn't appear to fit you great, the contrast collar shirt doesn't go with that somewhat casual jacket, the tie is loud. Cirque du soleil is a high-class sort of affair, not a carnival style circus. I don't really get the vibe you've chosen.

All that said, I dressed much worse when I was your age, so if you dig it, ignore me.

Not sure if it's the right sub..

An acquaintance complained about people who dressed in their casual jeans to watch a ballet show. She was a former performer and felt they were not being respectful enough as "watching ballet is a privilege."

I feel that many people don't see the need to wear black tie to a musical, but why does it matter so much more for a ballet or opera show? If "ballerinas work hard and audience should show respect by wearing formal", doesn’t it imply that musical/other types of performers work lesser than ballerinas or opera singers? Do ballet/opera command more respect, and therefore deserve better-heeled audience?

I think it's okay to wear whatever you want as long as it's respectful (decent; not necessarily fancy) and comfortable.

I've never done a touring show, but I'm hoping to work as a coach in one in the next few years.

Performers are always cliquey. My particular clique consisted of three clowns and a hand balancer as well as couple of acrobats like myself. We lived in a dressing room called "M-6". "M-7" was filled with the female clown and characters, so we hung out as M6 and M7, when everyone else was on level D, so were D1, D3, etc. We had M-level parties where nobody from level D was invited. Yeah, we're all cliquey. But...D15 believed that we in M6 were unworthy of joining their parties. They had different interests than we did, and it didn't bother either group that they weren't invited to the other group's party.

My career path...If you read the original AMA you'll know. I don't have the heart to fo through that all again right now.

I'm 36-1/2. 36 is pretty much the oldest an acrobat will make it to in Cirque. There are clowns and others who are a bit older, but mid-30s is sort of the end of the road for acrobats at this point.

I wish I could describe a day in the life, but they are so varied that it wouldn't help you. Quickly, Wake at 2:00 PM, shower and shave, breakfast, go to work around 3:00, train until 6:00, sign in, Makeup until 7:30, show until 10:00. Dinner and conversation, reading, whatever until 11:00. Show until 12:30, shower, and makeup removal until around 1:00 AM.

Training, performance, and diet, I learned from USA Gymnastics as a National Team member. We did regular courses with dietitians, and I was well versed in how to take care of my diet. Cirque didn't do anything with diet, but I'm sure that any cirque acrobat could have received the best advice from a top councilor if they needed it and sought it out.

I'm also a circus geek, and all of my circussey friends blow my mind, and I love it when I get the chance to blow their minds, because believe it or not, all of us a very specialized and when I see a trampolinist do a "coca-cola" I freak out every bit as much as that trampolinist freaks out when he sees me do my aerial trick on the high bar. We feel empathy for one another. I think what it really comes down to is that cool shit it cool and we all appreciate it. Pope or prince or Plumber, Cirque is just fucking cool. That is that.
