Sometimes they give you a quantity of blueberries in volume (2 cups) and sometimes as a weight (6 ounces). But how much are they really talking about? How many blueberries in a pound? In order to help make cooking easier we did some experiments to help tell you exactly how many blueberries you need to buy. Like many other types of berries found at farmers markets and grocery stores, blueberries are normally served whole or chopped. You can just pop them into your mouth for a tasty treat or bake them into pies, preserves and other delicious desserts. To answer How many blueberries in a cup we went to the local market to check out the fruit section. Don't forget that volume equivalents will vary depending on the size of the berries; our measurements are from the pound of fresh blueberries that we purchased at our local grocery store for our how many blueberries in a cup testing samples. The size of these berries ran between .25 to .5 inches in diameter. We found that a 1 pound container (450g) holds about 3 to 3.5 cups or 195 to 210 fresh blueberries. For a 1 quart measurement you would need to purchase about 1.5 pounds which equals about 4.25 cups. The smaller 1 pint clamshell cartons commonly sold in stores holds about 2.25 cups of blueberries and weighs about 3/4 pound. If you are only looking for 1 cup of fresh blueberries, you only need about 6 ounces which is 65 to 70 berries. For a nice looking fresh blueberry 9 inch pie, 3 pounds should do the trick - what a treat! Did you know that North America produces nearly 95% of world blueberry production.
