How to farm grass in Farming Simulator 22

Grass is one of the most versatile crops in Farming Simulator 22. It can be found almost everywhere and grows in the space between fields, which means mowing and making bales can be a great use of players’ time when they’re waiting for their crops to grow. Players can even use it to make Hay or Silage, which are both beneficial to livestock farmers.

How do I mow grass and bale it in Farming Simulator 22?

How to farm grass in Farming Simulator 22

Players can mow grass in Farming Simulator 22 by either buying or leasing a mowing attachment for a tractor or purchasing a dedicated mower. Each mower has a different mowing pattern, and the more expensive models tend to let players mow a wider area.

Mowed grass is ejected from a mower in big heaps. These piles can then be either picked up with a forage harvester with the correct header or a loading wagon. Loose grass can then be stored in a silo.

Alternatively, players can use a Windrower to sort the grass into easy-to-pick-up rows. Then, grass bales can be produced by collecting it with a baler. However, if a player plans on making hay, they should not bale the grass immediately. Also, note that each baler creates a specifically sized and shaped bale. The size and shape of a bale will affect which Bale Collectors or Bale Wrappers can be used with them.

Obviously, this process goes much more quickly in multiplayer. On solo farms, the effort might not be worth the reward.

How to make Hay and Silage

Players will need to process grass further to produce Hay and Silage in Farming Simulator 2022.

To make Hay Bales, players should:

  • Use a Tedder on the loose grass to turn it into hay.
  • Use a Windrower on the hay to make it easier to pick up.
  • Pick up the Hay with a Baler

To make Silage, players can either:

  • Take loose grass and put it into a silage silo, and then compact it with a leveler.
  • Use a Bale Wrapper on bales of loose grass.

Silage is useful as feed for cattle, sold at the biogas plant, or used to make the Total Mixed Ration, the best food available for cattle.

Grass Farming is like Cotton Farming but a lot easier. You have to Cultivate Grass, harvest them and then Produce 40 Grass bales. Also, best done in one sitting.

It is recommended to work on your Elmcreek savefile.

You should use field 59. It is on the lower left side and near field 68. It is big enough for this achievement. To harvest and bale grass, you need to buy 1 Mower or Mower attachment, 1 Cultivator (the last one can be reused), 1 Planter/Fertilizer, and finally 1 Bale wrapper.

You need a Grass Mower and a Grass Bale wrapper. I recommend using one of your tractors or buying another one and adding a mower attachment. Just choose whatever looks best for you. The recommendation is again the JCB Fastrac 8330 for 289,000 each. The mowing attachment will be the Pöttinger NOVACAT 301 AM ED Pro, it costs only 13,500. The next step is the Tool that you need. For Bailing you need the Pöttinger IMPRES 125FC PRO (DLC MOD) for 78,500. Why this one you may ask? Some people say if you do not use this exact model, the tracker does not grow. It can also be attached and used by the same tractor while you are mowing the field. Again, back to back. For me and while writing this guide, I checked every preinstalled Baler in the game, and every single Baler worked for me! The last item that you need is another Seeder. Buy the Kuhn ESPRO 6000 RC for 120,500 or the AMAZONE Citan 15001-C for 206,500.

At first, you have to prepare the cultivation of fields. This has to be done with the Harrow. I recommend reusing your Case Speed-Tiller 475. After harrowing the field, you have to seed and fertilize the fields. This time with grass seeds. To change seeds press and holdand then hitup to the point the grass seeds are shown in the bottom right. The tool for this is the Kuhn ESPRO 6000 RC (or the AMAZONE). The Kuhn is technically a 3-in-one tool. But if you use the ESPRO without Harrowing, you will miss out on some progress for the harrowing achievement.

While you are working on harrowing, after one or two finished rows, you can start the Kuhn directly behind the Case again to seed and fertilize as fast as possible. The AMAZONE is larger but can not be used right behind the Case, they both can get stuck while used with AI-Workers. Again before using the Kuhn ESPRO 6000 RC, you have to fill in some Seeds and some Fertilizers if not already done. Objects, Big bag Pallets, 1 Pack of Solid Fertilizers, and 1 pack of Seeds. To fill your tools hook up the Kuhn on one of your Tractors. Drive back or sideways to the Packs and hit"refill".

Last but not least you need the Baler. Attach the Pöttinger IMPRES 125FC PRO onto the back of the Tractor. You can bale directly after mowing.

Bring all your material near field 59.

Now it's farming time.

To farm your fields you once more have to make your moves in this order:

  1. Harrowing the field.
  2. Fertilize and seed the field.
  3. Wait for the crops to grow. For grass seeds, it is two days of in-game time, and grass regrows automatically!
  4. Start your Mower and cut down your growth.
  5. Start your Mower again and cut down your growings once more.
  6. While cutting it down the second time, attach the baler and bale your grass while mowing.

Just drive your tool onto whichever corner of the field you like. Harrowing, Fertilizing, and Seeding can be done with an AI-Worker. The Mowing should be done on your own.

You have to fully cut field 59 up to two and a half times for the 40 bales. This takes around 1 to 2 hours. The grass grows and regrows extremely fast. After the 40th bale is produced the achievement is yours.

Pro-tip. First, mow the grass two or three times before bailing. You do not lose the mowed grass, it will stay there right on the ground for extra fast bailing.
