How to play multiplayer on Factorio

I played well over 1000 hours solo. I played on a server. I now want to play cooperatively with a friend.

Is there a a simple way to do a 2 player coop game without the complexities of setting up a server?

Of course, the assumption is that both of us will be in Factorio when we play this map, and that one of us holds the map save.

Note: We are on Steam. I saw a post saying that Steam should make this easy to do, but I cannot find any guide or tutorial on how to do it.

As long as you both have unique Factorio accounts, you should be able to just host a game and have the other one join by searching in the multiplayer listings. No port-forwarding (or even less safe stuff like hamachi) needed. The issue might be you have different versions of the game, one of you is using mods, you're both on the same account, one or both of you are pirating the game, or one or both of you don't have a Factorio account.

How to Host/Join MP Guide

Use Evolve Client to play MP - " https://www.evolvehq.com/client "

1. Download & Install Evolve.
   
2. Create a Account & Verify.
   
3. Create a Lobby & Invite Friends.
   
4. Select "Game" for Lobby. (Factorio)
   
5. Copy Host IP Address that Evolve gives you.
   
6. Launch Factorio > Play > MultiPlayer > (Host) Host's the game.
   
7. Friends > Join Game with IP Evolve gives you, Connect to Game.
   
8. Enjoy Factorio Multiplayer!

My friends and I have been using Evolve since factorio came out with a multiplayer, its easy to use and light weight. In my opinion its more secure then using Hamachi.

If it shows you as offline.
Try This : "I have Windows 10 and no issues "connecting" Open "device manager", find network adapters "while evolve is running" right click on evolve virtual ethernet adapter and go to advanced properties then change the "value" to anything.. I picked 0. Restart computer and it should show you as being online"

Radmin VPN setup

To create connection between you and your friend you'll need a special software in this guide we'll use Radmin VPN

1. Download Radmin VPN
2. In Radmin VPN go to
   Network -> Join existing network -> Gaming network tab
   or you can create your own private network and invite your teammates
   
   
3. Make sure Radmin VPN will work smoothly by setting up your firewall

How to host the game

Go to Play -> Multiplayer -> "New game" for the first game or "Load game" if you've played before.
Click "Generate" and "Play"

How to join the game

Play -> Multiplayer -> Connect to game

Copy  host's IP address

and paste it here

Troubleshooting

If you can't see your friends or any servers in the game:

1. make sure you all have the same game version
2. make sure you did all the steps in the instruction above
3. set up your firewall
