Adam Silvera, author of the #1 NYT bestseller They Both Die at the End (TBDATE), has announced two new books set in TBDATE’s universe! The upcoming books will be two interconnected novels, with the first titled The First to Die at the End, releasing October 4, 2022. Per Silvera, it “follows new star-crossed lovers as they’re put to the test on the very first day of Death-Cast’s fateful calls.” It’s set seven years before TBDATE. The First to Die at the End introduces new characters and will see the return of familiar ones. It will also introduce the Death-Cast crew as they launch the service. Pre-order it here.

They Both Die at the End follows Rufus and Mateo, two teens who receive calls from Death-Cast, telling them they’re going to die that day. Through an app called Last Friend, the two connect with each other. They set out to live the best last day they can. And yes. They really do die at the end. Silvera uses the story to explore questions of life and death. He invites readers to contemplate mortality, asking the big “what if you knew you were going to die?” Read our full article on Rufus and Mateo’s impact here.

They Both Die at the End initially released in 2017. In the past year or so, the book found renewed attention after blowing up on BookTok.
