2023 is sure to kick off in spectacular style as the road to WrestleMania begins with the WWE Royal Rumble!

The 2022 Royal Rumble produced some major shocks with two surprise winners of both the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches. ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey made her stunning comeback to WWE after almost three years away picking up the win in the women’s Rumble and booking her place at WrestleMania.

Brock Lesnar had one of the most rollercoaster single nights in WWE history. The Beat Incarnate lost his WWE Championship earlier in the night to Bobby Lashley thanks to Roman Reigns’ interference. By the end of the night, however, Lesnar was back on top as he entered the men’s Rumble at number 30 and won the whole thing.

So what will 2023 have in store for one of the most chaotic and highly anticipated nights in WWE’s calendar? Here’s everything you need to know about the 2023 Royal Rumble.

When Is WWE Royal Rumble?

2023’s edition of the Royal Rumble will take place on Saturday, the 28th of January, 2023, and will emanate from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. This is the third time the Alamodome has played host to the event with it last held in the venue back in 2017.

How Can I Watch WWE Royal Rumble?

The premium live event will be available to stream live on Peacock in the United States. The event will be available elsewhere globally live on the WWE Network.

Australian pay-TV network Foxtel has agreed an exclusive, multi-year broadcast partnership with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) for cross-platform rights.

The deal sees the WWE Network over-the-top (OTT) platform move from being an owned and operated product to being exclusively housed on Foxtel’s Binge streaming service from January 2023. The arrangement means entertainment-centric Binge, which costs AUS$10 (US$6.42) per month, will carry all WWE premium live events – including the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania – as well as exclusive original programming, as well as archive content.

Additionally, Foxtel will launch a dedicated 24/7 WWE channel on its linear pay-TV service in December 2022, which will also broadcast all premium live events. The events, which were previously only accessible via pay-per-view (PPV), will now be available at no additional cost to Fox8 channel subscribers. Foxtel’s streaming platform Kayo Sports will continue to show select WWE content under the new deal.

Foxtel, which has a subscriber base of 4.5 million when Binge and Kayo Sports’ totals are included, has not confirmed the financial terms of the agreement, but Deadline is reporting that the deal represents a ‘significant increase’ over the parties’ prior contract signed in 2017.

The Australian market deal mirrors a similar agreement WWE signed with NBC in 2021 to put the WWE Network platform on the Comcast-owned US media giant’s Peacock streaming service.

Binge executive director, Alison Hurbert-Burns said: “For generations WWE has delighted fans across the globe and we’re thrilled this expanded partnership makes Binge the new streaming home of WWE in Australia.”

WWE chairwoman and co-chief executive, Stephanie McMahon, said: “With its far-reaching and engaged audience, the Foxtel Group has been a trusted and long-standing partner of WWE for more than 20 years.

“We look forward to expanding our partnership with the Foxtel Group, and welcoming Binge as the new streaming home of WWE Network in the region.”

The WWE will now turn its attention toward the next round of rights negotiations in the US, with its current domestic broadcast deals for Raw and SmackDown set to expire soon. Co-chief executive Nick Khan said on an earnings call in August 2022 that the company expects streaming giants in Netflix, Amazon and Apple to declare interest in their programming, alongside traditional media outlets.
