Why do they call it the Gaslamp Quarter?The Gaslamp Name
The name "New Town" was lost over the years as the rest of the city grew but with great insight, the city kept the Victorian feel for most of this area, including the design of the signature Gas Lamp Street lights, hence giving the area its name.
Is Gaslamp Quarter worth visiting?Having gone from being the most infamous to the most “in” district of the city, today the Gaslamp Quarter has good restaurants, entertainment, and shopping for tourists and locals alike. We were so impressed when we visited it that we had to include it in the list of places to visit in San Diego.
