There are actually two fuel filters integrated into the fuel pump module in the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. One is inside of the main fuel pump module and the other is at the bottom of the module. Both are designed to hold up to extended use, but that doesn't mean You won't have to replace one at some point. The purpose of the filter is to keep contaminates from entering into the fuel injectors and fuel line so they can't damage the engine. This part can become excessively d***y though to where it can't restrict flow or filter particles. Signs of a failing fuel filter include vehicle is hard to start, mIS Firing, hesitation, stalling, decrease in acceleration, damaged fuel pump, and check engine light is on. Replacing the fuel filter in the 2012 Grand Cherokee will run You $220 to $250, including labor.

I just read on a forum that the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee does not have a serviceable fuel filter which is why you can't find information about it

The 2012 jeep grand cherokee fuel filter can be found in the fuel pump assembly in the gas tank

I just saw some videos on how we should be changing the fuel filter on our vehicles every now and then. It looked like a relatively easy change, but my problem is after doing Google and JeepGarage forum searches I came up empty -- no location or part. I looked at auto parts stores and again, no fuel filter. Certainly the 2011-2013 must have a fuel filter. I looked under my vehicle and followed the fuel line as best I could and didn't find it. I have a V8 5.8L gas engine.

Could one of you very experienced people shed some light on this problem or maybe point me to a diagram or schematic? Are fuel filters universal so they're not on the Mopar parts site? Do the cars just not have one? I'm just at a loss as to why there's no information other than one for the WJ and the WK2 3.0L diesel version.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 2013 it's a 3.6 liter and does not have a fuel filter. I'm pretty sure the only filter they have is in the tank with the pump and are a non serviceable part.

Correct there is no Serviceable fuel filter on the WK2 Series outside the 3.0L Diesel.

I just saw some videos on how we should be changing the fuel filter on our vehicles every now and then....

What video is this?

Like people have been saying, the fuel filters are integral with the fuel pump, if you have to change your fuel pump, you get new filters with the new pump. This is true of most modern cars. Changing it often requires draining and dropping the gas tank. It's just not practical.

Fuel systems and gasoline quality control has improved drastically, they do not clog filters like years ago.

I have yet to see a post about anyone having problems from a clogged fuel filter and needing to change it.

The Diesel has a unit that filters and separates water from the fuel, diesel fuel still have problems with clogging filter and water, so this is serviceable.

The JGC in the video a '95, that is 3 generations and 16 years before the WK2, the fuel filter is not going to be the same.

From the service manual:
Two fuel filters are integrated into the main fuel pump module. The first fuel filter is located at the bottom of the main fuel pump module and the second fuel filter is located inside the main fuel pump module. A separate frame mounted fuel filter is not used with any engine.
Both fuel filters are designed for extended service. The fuel filters are not a separate, serviceable component.

In other words...
WK2 models... Don't worry about it until there is a problem because it would involve dropping the fuel tank and replacing the entire fuel pump assembly.

That video is for a ZJ.

I'm guessing the life of the fuel pump will dictate when you change your fuel filter.

It did me too at first, I have yet to have problem from a fuel filter, in later model vehicles. I have dropped the gas tank on a '92 Dodge Caravan and a '99 Neon R/T to change fuel pumps, both tanks were completely spotless inside and not a drop of water in the tank.

My Neon R/T was unique in that fuel pump mounted filter mounted on the outside of the pump, and was accessible and could be removed, not easily, but it could be done without dropping the entire tank. After years, I replaced it, and cut open the old one, it looked perfectly fine and didn't have any signs of clogging or build up at all.

Diesel is whole other animal, and they still have problems with fuel filters and water, that is why the Diesel WK2 does have serviceable filters and water traps.

Does a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee have a fuel filter?

From the service manual: Two fuel filters are integrated into the main fuel pump module. The first fuel filter is located at the bottom of the main fuel pump module and the second fuel filter is located inside the main fuel pump module.

How many fuel filters does a Jeep Grand Cherokee have?

All WJ models have two fuel filters, a strainer filter at the bottom of the fuel pump module inside the fuel tank and one exterior filter within the fuel pressure regulator.

How do I know if my fuel pump is bad on my Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Signs of such failure are a car that won't start or stalls once it has started. Other times, the fuel flow can slowly become starved causing the check engine light to come on. Or if you hear a whirring sound coming from your fuel tank, the fuel pump may be about to fail, since fuel pumps do not normally make noise.
