Some common ruses are the super helpful fake guru scammer, the use of multiple accounts to respond to themselves trying to look legit, and the "my friend" based suggestions. Do not click links to sites people offer for their own services / apps / videos / etc. When you see these things going on, use the report system to let mods and site admin know about it.

Amazon.com is having a little trouble loading today. Amazon Web Services and Amazon Prime Music also seem to be struggling, while the company’s regional sites, like Amazon.ca, appear to be working just fine.

We first spotted the outage at 11:20 a.m. Pacific. The site is displaying a generic apologetic message: “We’re sorry! An error occurred when we tried to process your request. Rest assured, we’re working to resolve the problem as soon as possible. If you were trying to make a purchase, please check Your Account to confirm that the order was placed. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Of course, in this case, the “request” is simply to access the largest Internet-based retailer in the U.S. Looks like Americans will have to delay their online shopping urges for a little bit.

Amazon rarely suffers outages, which makes sense given how critical its site is to its business. But it does happen.

In August 2013, for example, Amazon was down for some 40 minutes. This outage reportedly cost the company $5 million.

We have contacted Amazon for more information.

Update at 11:38 Pacific: Amazon.com is working once again. The outage thus lasted some 20 minutes — not very long by outage standards, but still significant for a retail giant. We will update you again if Amazon shares details on what may have caused the issue.

Why is Amazon saying an error occurred?

If Amazon keeps saying “Sorry” for something that went wrong, just refresh the page or reload the app. This is a common error usually resulting from a poor connection. Otherwise, assuming Amazon servers are actually online, you should double check that your PC or phone network connection is working as intended.

What does it mean when Amazon says sorry we couldn't find that page?

Having product listings down means the product is unavailable to customers which means lost sales and inventory being effectively stuck at Amazon fulfillment centers until the issues are resolved.

What does it mean when it says processing on Amazon?

Some of your inventory has been put to one side for either drop-testing, measuring, photography or some sort of other investigation (e.g. Amazon suspect it may be hazardous or non-compliant).

How do I fix my Amazon listing error?

Listing error: A listing error is when your inventory is not connected to any active ASIN; for example, if items in your FBA shipment aren't associated with an active listing or your listing has been deleted (either by accident or by a competitor). Most of the time this is an easy fix. You simply relist the ASIN.
