What happens when disposable vapes run out?

Disposable vapes are a convenient, budget-friendly way to try out vaping or try a new vape juice without making a huge financial commitment. For beginners, it's good to know how disposable vape pens work  before hopping in, but that doesn't mean you won't have new questions as you vape!

One of the most common questions we get is about how to determine when your disposable vape is empty. In this article, we'll let you in on what signs to look for when your vape pen has run dry, along with a few other helpful answers to common questions we get about disposable vapes!

It can be tricky trying to figure out if your disposable vape is out of vape juice or if the device is defective. If you notice the following from your disposable vape, you know that you have vaped up all the e-liquid!

The Vapor Tastes Burnt or Charred

If you start to notice a burnt, charred taste to your vapor, you're out of juice. When you run out of e-liquid (but still have battery power), the atomizer still heats. Since it doesn't have vape juice to absorb the heat and vaporize, the heat is absorbed by the wick, which is usually made of cotton. Direct heat burns the wick, and that nasty taste is a sure sign that you need a new vape!

After Extended Use, the Vapor Gets Thin and Tasteless

If you were getting pick, thick puffs when you first used the device and now get thin, tasteless clouds, you're running out of vape juice. There's still a little bit left to prevent the wick from burning, but there's not enough e-liquid to give you a satisfying puff. We recommend changing out for a new device at this stage to avoid inhaling harmful smoke from the wick.

The Battery Turns On, the Device Gets Hot, but No Vapor is Produced

If the wick in your disposable vape is metal mesh or coil, you may not get a smoky, burnt taste when your run out of e-liquid. However, if your device turns on, you feel the device warming up, but when you take a hit nothing comes out, you're likely out of vape juice. You may notice an offputting metallic flavor, but you will often notice nothing until components begin to fail.

Whether your vape uses a coil or a wick will affect its specific performance, so take a look at what your preferred vape has before making a purchase!

A Dead Battery vs. an Empty Disposable Vape

One of the most challenging things to tell the difference between whether your disposable vape has a dead battery or is out of juice. This is especially true if you are using a draw-fire vape (which means you aren't turning the device on or pressing a button to take a hit). You'll have to pay close attention to how the vape feels in order to determine which is happening.

If you repeatedly take draws and nothing happens, and the vape stays cold, your battery is dead. You may or may not be out of vape juice, but you might as well be. Disposable vapes aren't designed to be recharged, so when the battery is done, so is your vaping relationship with that device.

If you take draws and the device warms (as we mentioned earlier), your battery is in working order! This likely means that you have run out of vape juice, or there may be an electrical short that is preventing vaporization.

How To Tell When Your Disposable Vape Is Empty

What happens when disposable vapes run out?

It can be tricky at first to figure out if your disposable vape pen is empty or if you’ve vaped all its juice out, but below are cues that you can observe.

There’s a nasty burnt taste to the vapour

Your unit is out of juice when you notice that its vapour tastes burnt or charred. Your vape battery may still work and is able to power your unit, and the atomizer would still heat even if its liquid is empty. However, since there is no juice left, there won’t be anything that would suck up the heat and vaporize. On the other hand, it is the wick (which is usually made of cotton) that is being absorbed by the heat. In turn, it burns the cotton wick which gives your vape a nasty taste.

#1 There is less vapour, and it is tasteless

It is a sign that you are running out of vape liquid if your unit produces lesser and tasteless vapor. It’s a far cry from the creamy puffs that you used to inhale when your vape was new. In other words, your puff isn’t so satisfying anymore. When this happens, you should get a new e-cigarette to avoid inhaling wick smoke that may be harmful.

#2 Your vape doesn’t produce vapour anymore

Your unit may still get hot because its battery is working, however, no smoke comes out. If your vape wick is made of metal coil or mesh, you’re likely to taste something metallic when you puff, indicating that your e-liquid is empty.

#3 Check if the battery is dead

You have to know the difference between your vape battery being dead or if it is out of juice. The problem is a dead battery if your unit stays cold even if you have taken draws repeatedly. Disposable vapes are not designed to be recharged, so when this happens, it means that your unit is done. Also make sure to keep you CBD away from pets.

How do you make a disposable vape hit again after it dies?

As these devices are disposable, there is no way of reviving them after they have run out of vape juice or when the battery inside has completed depleted. When a disposable vape dies, you must dispose of the device and replace it with a new one.

How do I get more hits from a dead disposable?

Break Air Bubbles If you have a pod-based disposable vape, you might get weak hits if air bubbles form around the pod's wicks. Tap the device gently on a table to break the air bubbles. After giving the wicks a few seconds to get wet, you should get some nice hits again.

What happens when a vape runs out of liquid?

The vape battery may still work despite you finishing the E-Liquid tank, meaning that the kit is still powered and the atomizer is still getting hot, even though there's no juice left. Instead, it will heat the wick, and if this is made from cotton, it will make a nasty burning taste.
